The Gratitude Experiment

Gratitude is one habit I want to develop. Jeff Goins said that gratitude is a discipline. When we practice gratitude each day like a muscle it grows stronger.

To help me build this habit, I came up with keeping a gratitude jar. I would write three things I'm grateful for each day and keep it in the jar. I'm committing this for 30 days starting today and if I like the outcome, I might keep it for the rest of the year.

Have you tried this habit?

Decorating Ideas To Honor Mary This May

May is the month of Mary and as Catholics we are encouraged to honor her throughout this month. I know its half way of May but its never too late right? One simple way to honor her aside from praying the rosary is to decorate the area where the beautiful statue or picture of Mother Mary is displayed. Here's a few ideas to help you (and me).

1. The Wall Flower

Choose your favorite flowers and simply tape them on the wall.Flowers not need to be expensive or better yet make paper flowers  tutorial here.

2. Floral Arrangement

3. Flower Crown

4. Candles

Getting To Know Mother Mary

our mini altar

May is my birth month and also happens to be the month of Mary. A month long devotion to our Mother Mary. We are encouraged to honor Mary with pictures, reflections and praying the rosary. Honestly, I do not know that it is Mary's month if not reading it here . I was raised as a Catholic and even went to a Catholic school during my elementary and high school. I learned how to pray the rosary but never pray often, that October is the month of rosary and special days of Mary such as birthday and feast days. But I never have a personal relationship with her. It is only now that I am taking time to pray every night and reading about her. These are just of the few simple ways to get to know Mother Mary. To know more of how I can be closer to Mary I am reading this post.

In honor of Mother Mary I am giving away 10 Rosary. If you want to have one, please email me at daintywife@gmail.com  with your name and mailing address . This is only for those residing in the Philippines because it is quite expensive to ship to other countries.

Snapshots of a Weekend 5.10.14

The Restaurant.

Over looking view of the Alcoy beach.

Rooms for rent.

Last Saturday, I was invited by my girlfriends  to whale watching in the southern part of Cebu as our summer get-together but we ended up having lunch instead at Bodo's Bamboo Bar & Resort in Alcoy. The restaurant has a native design, very cozy. The food was quite good. My only complaint was the flies going around our table maybe because of the coconut juice we ordered but the view was really beautiful such a blessing to see God's gift of nature.
We had such a lovely time!

Philippine Souvenir: Mini Jeepneys

My sister asked me to buy these mini jeepneys. She will give them as gifts / souvenirs to her non-Filipino boss. She thought of something that they would like and would remind them of their short stay in the Philippines aside from the t-shirts or key chains.

Four Months After Typhoon Yolanda

Last Tuesday, hubby and I decided to visit our hometown, Tacloban City. I was missing home and my family. Since, it was a last minute decision on a Monday night and there was no time to book a flight, we took a much longer travel 2.5 hours ride by sea and 2 hours ride by land. Our boat ride was at 5:30 am. I do not really like traveling by boat because of seasickness, but I endure the 2.5 hours of travel because of this
For the first time in many years I was able to see the sunrise. It was beautiful. Such an amazing creation of God.
Upon arriving Ormoc City, we rode a van to take us to Tacloban City a 2 hours drive. Ormoc City is one of the hardest hit by the Super Typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda, in Tacloban it was both the storm surge and strong winds that wreaked havoc , in Ormoc it was the strong wind. I saw roofless structures / houses even trees lay flat as if the leaves in one direction.
This is outside the city proper of Ormoc.

We arrived in Tacloban City around 11:00 am. In the afternoon I slept mostly I was still feeling dizzy. Electricity in our place was restored the following day.

My parent's house was partially damaged, half of the roof were flown( a tarpaulin temporarily shelter them from the rains.), a few shattered windows and kitchen door damage. Their small business which  is house rental was severely damaged.

An old house actually of my parents which they turned to house for rent.

It would take them months to rebuild both house and a lot of money. But we are more grateful that they survived the typhoon and no one was hurt.

For the next couple of days, hubby and I went around the city. It's been more than four months since typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan but the damage and destruction is still visible. Collapsed houses, roofless structures/houses. Relief operations are still abundant. Help is really coming both foreign and the government. Through the good hearts of these people, the people of Tacloban are starting to pick up the pieces and are hopefully recovering.
